Team Ella Runners Raise Over £5,500 at the Great North Run

Well done to all our Team Ella runners at the Great North Run, what a fantastic day helping young adults live well with cancer.

Twelve dedicated runners took to the streets of Newcastle this month as Team Ella proudly returned to the Great North Run, helping to raise vital funds to support young adults living with and beyond cancer.

The event marked the fifth year that the Ella Dawson Foundation has been part of the world-famous half marathon, with runners once again enjoying the unforgettable atmosphere as thousands lined the route from Newcastle to South Shields.

This year’s team brought together a mix of first-time runners and experienced Great North Run veterans, each taking on the 13.1-mile challenge for a cause close to their hearts.

Among the standout achievements was Karen, who completed her 20th Great North Run and recorded her fastest-ever half marathon time. Meanwhile, Beau, Paul, Justin and Joel celebrated crossing the finish line of both their first half marathon and first Great North Run.

Returning runners Lucy, Trustee Kris, Andrew, Paul, Amy, Stella and Brad added another Great North Run medal to their growing collections, demonstrating their ongoing commitment to supporting young adults affected by cancer.

Behind the scenes, the team also received incredible support from Lead Clinical Psychologist Nicky, who volunteered her day to cheer runners along the route. As if that wasn’t enough, she also ensured the team had a well-earned supply of homemade cakes waiting at the finish line.

Thanks to the generosity of sponsors, supporters and donors, Team Ella has already raised more than £5,500 including Gift Aid, with fundraising totals continuing to grow. The money raised will help the Ella Dawson Foundation continue providing specialist support, wellbeing programmes and resources for young adults navigating life during and after cancer.

Speaking after the event, the charity expressed its gratitude to everyone involved.

With the success of this year's event still being celebrated, attention is already turning to the future. Registration for the 2027 Great North Run ballot is now open, offering aspiring runners the chance to be part of one of the UK's most iconic sporting events while making a difference to young adults affected by cancer.
