We are writing to make you aware of a data security incident involving Beacon, the third-party CRM system we use to help manage our supporter records. Beacon has told us that there was unauthorised access to its systems which affected a large number of charities. While Beacon has not confirmed to us which charities were directly affected, it is possible that some personal information relating to you was included in the incident. This may include your name, postal address and email address.

We want to be clear that the information potentially involved does not include passwords or payment information. The Ella Dawson Foundation does not store financial information, payment card details, bank account information, passport details or medical records within Beacon.

Beacon has advised that it acted quickly to secure its systems and has reported the matter to the relevant authorities. We have also notified the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) and the Charity Commission for England and Wales and have taken comprehensive steps to ensure the highest standards of data security is maintained.

You do not need to take any specific action at this stage. As a sensible precaution, please remain alert to unexpected emails, calls or text messages, particularly if they ask you to click a link or share personal, banking or security information. If you are ever unsure whether a message is genuine, it is best to check directly with the organisation using contact details you already trust.
